A Significant Exclusive will no Longer be Supported by Playstation

Another (though brief) era is coming to an end. Dreams, a PlayStation-only game creation title by Media Molecule, is about to terminate its live service.

In case you weren't aware, Dreams allows users to make their own games to share with others, and over the years, people have created some truly awesome stuff. We've seen it all, from cursed adaptations of classic brands to completely original concepts. The PS4 game's support is unfortunately ending less than three years after its release.

The developers announced their intention to stop providing live support for Dreams on September 1, 2023 in a blog post on the game's official website. "As we continue to evaluate and evolve our priorities for the studio and Dreams, we've made the difficult decision to shift our focus to an exciting new project," they said. After September, you'll still be able to play, create, and share Dreams with others, but there won't be any more game updates or special occasions like DreamsCom, All Hallows' Dreams, or the Impy Awards. We have put a lot of effort into creating Dreams, including our content releases, Create updates, and live events, and we are immensely happy of what we've accomplished. We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the community for its support and ongoing contributions since inception.

    Fortunately, the game won’t be totally killed off. You will still be allowed to purchase and download it, and as the devs already stated, it'll still be possible to play, create and share things in the game even after the final update in September. The devs have also clarified that they’ll continue to roll out critical bug fixes after the last update, if required.

    No further word has been given on Media Molecule’s “exciting new project”, either, other than the fact that it’s not a sequel to Dreams, or anything to do with Dreams at all for that matter. We’ll just have to watch this space.
